There is a saying that "you can't step into the same river twice."
You can't go back to the same Mexican town either.
The cruise port is no longer the sleepy, new-born port that we visited with our motor home in 2005. The only thing on the beach that looked looked familiar to us was the open-air chapel.
The harbor is filled with boats now, and the hillside with new condos.
There are more amenities on the beach:
A closer look at what was for sale ...
We opted to take a taxi to downtown Santa Clara to see the old town. We stopped for a beer (actually two!!) with complimentary peanuts that were too "hot" to enjoy and wifi that was too iffy to be pleasant. But we were directly across from the zocalo where we could people watch. It was hot-- in the 90s -- and the ice cream vendor was doing a brisk business.
We took a little walk through town before getting a taxi back to the harbor.
Stopped to rest on a bench at the beach before the long walk on the pier back to the ship
